Many parents need help, friendship, advice or support during those early years when children are young. There is no rulebook for raising a family and sometimes it can seem overwhelming, particularly if your family is going through difficult times.
As a parent you might ask for Home-Start’s help for all sorts of reasons:
- You may be feeling isolated in your community, have no family nearby and be struggling to make friends.
- You may be finding it hard to cope because of your own or your child’s illness.
- You may have been hit hard by the death of a loved one.
- You may be really struggling with emotional and physical demands of having twins or triplets – perhaps born into an already large family.
Help is at hand. We support any family who needs us, as long as they have at least one child under five.
But what do we mean by ‘support’? If you ask for Home-Start’s help you can be sure of total confidentiality. There is no stigma attached to Home-Start’s help – the fact that almost 25% of families refer themselves to us is proof of that. And all Home-Start’s volunteers have an enhanced level criminal records check.
After asking for our support you will meet with one of our local organisers who will carefully match you with one of our volunteers. Our volunteers, who all have parenting experience, will visit you for a couple of hours a week and give you the support you require.
What do I do next?
If you feel your family would benifit from the support of a Home-Start volunteer and you live in the Mansfield area please get in touch by clicking here and our team will do everything we can to make your Home-Start journey a happy one.
Please note, though Home-Start has 334 local schemes it does not cover 100% of the UK, and some schemes are limited in how far they can travel to support families. Whether we can support you also depends on how many volunteers we have and the level of funding available at that time. We will always do our best to put you in touch with some form of help, but sadly we can’t guarantee this.
